Solima: Castro almost signed for Zamalek before Chiefs

Former Zamalek head coach Moamen Solima says Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro was close to signing for the White Knights.

Castro left Mamelodi Sundowns to sign for Amakhosi in January 2018, but Soliman has revealed that he could've easily ended up at Zamalek two years earlier.

"After the [2016 Caf Champions League] final, and while I was so sad to lose the title and Sundowns players were celebrating, Castro came to me and offered himself to play for Zamalek because he was fascinated by the atmosphere in the stadium," said Solima in an interview with On-Time Sports.

"I told the board about that story, and we were trying to sign him before, but I was sacked after that and for some reason, he did not come to the club."

The 30-year-old striker's future at Chiefs appears to be up in the air as his current deal expires in the next few months, and he has already rejected several new contracts.
