Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has praised new signing Gaston
Sirino and believes he will be an important part of the club's future.
The Uruguayan winger joined Sundowns on Wednesday, after Mosimane saw him in action in Bolivia, and he has been backed by the coach to fill a crucial role at the Chloorkop outfit.
“Sirino is the kind of player who has the qualities of a Khama Billiat‚ of a Percy Tau or Aubrey Ngoma‚” Mosimane said, according to the Sowetan.
“I think the body size will tell you that he’s not a No. 9. He’s got speed. He’s an intelligent player. So that’s why we brought him here.
“The ‘CBD’ is gone or is going – maybe there’s one left (Billiat).
“But we have to make sure that Sundowns stay on top."
He added: “So Sirino is part of a future. The supporters play with the names and probably we will have another combination. But the good thing is we did these signings very quickly."
Sirino scored 18 goals in 41 appearances for his former club Bolivar last season. The 26-year-old started his career at Rampla Juniors, before spells at Chilean sides San Felipe and San Luis.
Meanwhile Sundowns' new head of the technical department, Erik Hamren, has assured supporters that he will not interfere with head coach Pitso Mosimane's work.
"The head coach will always be the man in charge. It will be a big relationship [with Pitso] because the first team is the face of the club," Hamren said.
