Sibiya working hard to recover

Vusi Sibiya says the enforced break from football is a "blessing in disguise" as it has allowed him extra time to recover from injury.

The 25-year-old Baroka defender has been sidelined since the ninth week of the season and continues his recovery while on lockdown.

While Bakgaga are in a precarious Premier Soccer League position, in 13th place just three points from bottom-side Black Leopards, they are also in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup, and Sibiya is hopeful the club can secure their survival and win the prestigious cup competition.

Speaking to KickOff, he said: "My season personally was very short, I only played the first nine games then got injured, and until now I’m still out.

"I don't know if I should say it's a blessing in disguise for me or what, because it has given me a chance to recover from my injury.

"Maybe now I will be able to play the remaining games and help the team to save its status as well as win the Nedbank Cup."

Baroka face Bloemfontein Celtic in their semi-final while Mamelodi Sundowns play Bidvest Wits.

Sibiya added: "Well, it's everyone’s dream to lift a trophy so it's so important to win this tournament because it will motivate players to do better next season.

"I cannot say we're ready, but should we win it. We will definitely have enough time to prepare for it."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
