Cape Town - Maritzburg United midfielder Bandile Shandu has called on his team-mates to emulate the club's exploits in the 2016/17 campaign as they look to avoid relegation this season.
The Team of Choice finished the 2016/17 season a comfortable 10 points clear of the relegation zone, clinching a seventh-place finish in the process.
Shandu made 27 appearances for Maritzburg in that season and has highlighted the "unity" and "dedication" shown by the team as a crucial factor in what turned out to be a successful campaign.
And, the 24-year-old has called for more of the same this season as bottom-of-the-table United look to use their remaining eight fixtures to lift themselves out of the dreaded drop zone.
"Unity, dedication and fighting for each other helped us that season and we need to keep that attitude this time and save this club," Shandu was quoted as saying by KickOff.com.
"This club has played a huge role in my life and for other people in Maritzburg. For us to fight and survive will be very good for the community.
"We need to win for everyone, the supporters who've been supporting us throughout the season, they never turn their back on us."
