S'fiso Hlanti still harbours overseas hopes

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits defender S'fiso Hlanti has admitted he still harbours hopes of one day plying his trade overseas after a failed move in the off-season.

The experienced left-back was linked with a move to North American club Nashville SC - who currently play in the second division - but Hlanti has refused to confirm the identity of the club chasing his signature.

In the end, Wits rejected a transfer offer from an unnamed club, believed to be in the region of R4 million.

"I won't say much regarding my overseas offer," as quoted by IOL website. "I was hoping that I will move overseas.

"Wits had a chat with the team from that side. I was waiting for them in terms of confirming everything.

"I can't say much because, after all, I'm still contracted to Bidvest Wits."

He continued: "It will be an honour for me to play overseas. For every player who plays here in the Premier Soccer League, it is something that we desire to see happening at all costs."

Hlanti has featured sparingly for the Clever Boys this season, making just two Absa Premiership appearances as injury kept him on the treatment table.

And the former AmaZulu man can't wait to get back on the pitch.

"I'm excited that I've recovered," Hlanti added. "I've been out of the game for a long time.

"I was out for two months. The team was there for me. I'm happy to be back again."

Hlanti will be hoping to be involved when Wits travel to Mozambican outfit UD Songo on Sunday for the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup play-off round clash.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
