Bloemfontein Celtic coach Lehlohonolo Seema says he appointed Ndumiso Mabena as club captain because of his leadership qualities.
The 32-year-old striker has a wealth of experience having played for five seasons with Orlando Pirates, before joining Platinum Stars in 2014.
He signed for Bloemfontein in 2017 and after coming to the end of his contract last July, was rewarded with a new two-year deal, such was his contribution to the club.
Making Mabena captain wasn't difficult for the Siwelele manager, who knew the player well from their time at Bucs together. He says Mabena will continue to the lead from the front.
Seema told the Daily Sun, Seema said: "I worked with Mabena at Orlando Pirates when I was still playing.
"He then went to Platinum Stars, where he did well. He has been a leader and that's why we have made him captain. We are happy with the way he is going."
He added: "We need to manage him well. He is not young anymore. We give him enough rest so that we can utilise him in the games. That is why he always has the energy."
Mabena has scored eight goals and created four more for Celtic this season.
