Sebola: It’s important for Bucs to plan ahead

Former Orlando Pirates striker Andries Sebola says the enforced break from league action will give Josef Zinnbauer time to assess his side.

The Coronavirus has seen football across the globe suspended, with the Buccaneers in fourth place in the Absa Premier League after 23 matches.

They trail league leaders Kaizer Chiefs by eight points having also played a game more.

Lingering doubts over when the league will resume has a number of pundits concerned, with Sebola even suggesting that Pirates should begin to plan for next season.

He told the Citizen: "The season might not be over yet, but I think this is the perfect time that they (technical team) can work out on the possibilities of the players they might think they will be useful for next season."

Pirates have a number of players out on loan including Justice Chabalala, Thembela Sikhakhane, Tebogo Tlolane and Brian Hlongwane.

Sebola added: "It’s very important to plan ahead and know how you are going to approach the season. Some of the players sent on loan have been doing very well and I believe they can make a difference and add to the depth of the team."

The former Real Rovers, AmaZulu and Ria Stars frontman stated though that he has been impressed with the Bucs this season.

"The club has improved tremendously, they are scoring goals, they are playing good football and they have been winning their matches," he explained.

"The fans are very happy with the way things are going and we have to applaud the coach for the job he has done. He has brought stability in the team and you can see by the way they play."

Sebola is, meanwhile, hopeful that Pirates will finish their campaign strongly although it is as yet unclear when the league will be able to resume.

"I can’t really say where they are going to finish on the league table, but what I can say is that it will be good position for the team looking at how they started," he concluded.
