Sangweni says Pirates must win trophies in 2018/19

Cape Town  - Former Orlando Pirates captain Siyabonga Sangweni believes 2018/19 is the season that the Sea Robbers need to deliver trophies after a four-year drought.

Sangweni was with Pirates when they last lifted a trophy in 2014 following victory over Wits in the Nedbank Cup final.

As such, the retired 36-year-old former Bafana Bafana international takes the view that it is high time for more silverware to arrive at Mayfair.

"We are expecting a lot of things from Pirates this season to make us happy and win trophies," he told KickOff website.

"It can't still be us who last lifted a trophy. They should start to open their own page.

"What they showed us last season, we want to see more of that, so that we can win something and not finish number two.

"There must be things to show at the end."

Bucs are currently on a pre-season tour in Zambia during which time they faced Congolese giants TP Mazembe on Thursday, picking up a 0-0 draw.

In the off-season period, new players signed include Brilliant Khuzwayo, Kudakwashe Mahachi, Paseko Mako, Linda Mntambo, Asavela Mbekile, Vincent Pule, Meshack Maphangule, Abel Mabaso and Ben Motshwari.
