Sangweni does not understand why Maritzburg released him

Journeyman midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni admits it's been difficult to deal with the fact that he is currently without a club.

Maritzburg United released the 30-year-old in December last year after he was told he's not part of the club's plans any more.

Sangweni, who has played for AmaZulu, Chippa United, Orlando Pirates, and Sundowns, has since been unemployed in his hometown of Dondotha in KwaZulu-Natal.

"It's not easy but as a man you need to hustle you know, even though it's difficult, I'm trying," he told KickOff.

"For now, no team has approached me. You know sometimes there are challenges in life that end up affecting your job, but now I've grown, and I know what it is that I need to do, and what it is that I'm not supposed to do.

"But it's something that I have sorted out now. It's something that needed me to be closer to home you see."

On his release from Maritzburg, Sangweni added: "To be honest I cannot tell you (why I was let go) because I was always in the gym and on time. I was always present in all the club's games but on the bench.

"So, they didn't give me any particular reason. When I was called to the office, I didn't even ask too many questions because I knew I had done nothing wrong. They just told me the coach says I was no longer in his plans and what-what.

"Because the written contract says I was supposed to play this number of games, which I couldn't. I was confused on what was happening.

"We were about to play a final with Sundowns, it's that very same week. I never received a medal... but still, I would still be hurt even if I was released after the final because I had no idea what was happening.

"What I can say is, I'm now prepared to play again. The time I spent not playing has also helped a lot. I've been watching my old matches, trying to see where I can improve my game.

"I won't choose teams, but I will be happy to be where I will feel appreciated."
