Cape Town - Former Orlando Pirates defender Siyabonga Sangweni believes the club should not have let Thabo Matlaba leave as he still has a lot to offer with his experience and understanding of the team culture.
Sangweni seemed to accuse Pirates of showing a lack of respect for the veteran in the team, who are integral for guiding the youngsters. Not only this, the former Buccaneers defender believes Matlaba would have added value on the pitch.
"The issue you are talking about, it's very tough to make any comment, but for me people like Matlaba who have worked so hard in the team, you can't just let them go because they understand the culture and have done well for the team," Sangweni said as quoted by KickOff website.
"Players who can work well with management, they've done well for the team and that makes them a very important part of the club."
Sangweni believes the Sea Robbers have only themselves to blame for missing out on the league title and pointed to defensive lapses and a lack of clinical finishing.
"Last season the team lost some games where they weren't supposed to lose," he added.
"It might be the concentration at the back and they couldn't convert chances they got. I believe next season all will be sorted."
