SAFA congratulates Sundowns

Cape Town - South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan has congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns for winning the 2015/2016 Premier Soccer League title.

Under the tutelage of coach Pitso Mosimane, Sundowns achieved the feat on Wednesday night after defeating neighbours University of Pretoria 3–0 in a Pretoria derby with two games to spare.

"Congratulations are in order for the Mamelodi Sundowns family – the president Mr Patrice Motsepe, the technical team led by Pitso Mosimane, the players and the fans – for a job well done," Jordaan said in an official SAFA release.

"You have once again demonstrated that it is not how you start that matters, but the way you finish is very critical.

"For Mosimane to have won his second league title with the club and also the Telkom Knockout trophy earlier this season, shows he is going about doing his job the right way.

"I know Pitso as a meticulous planner, a hard worker and one who is dedicated to his job. This is great stuff."

Sundowns will have to put the league title celebrations on hold as they turn their attention to the CAF Confederation Cup tournament this weekend.

They meet Medeama of Ghana on Saturday (18:00) at the Lucas Moripe Stadium hoping to consolidate their fast growing continental profile.

"You are the only team left in the CAF competition from South Africa and again want to wish you all the best," said Jordaan.

"Go make us proud by flying the country’s flag high. We hope that your title-winning performance will continue on Saturday and spur you on to beat Medeama."
