Cape Town - SuperSport United picked up their first win of the new Absa Premiership season as they edged out AmaZulu 1-0 the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.
The hosts settled down quickly in Atteridgeville to dominate proceedings, but they gave Moeneeb Josephs precious little to do until after the half-hour mark.
The veteran goalkeeper kept AmaZulu in the contest as he pulled off a smart double save to deny first Aubrey Modiba and then James Keene in the 34th minute.
Cavin Johnson's troops held out in the final 11 minutes of the half to give themselves a chance of turning things around in the second stanza.
However, their plans quickly went up in smoke as SuperSport broke the deadlock three minutes after the restart. Evans Rusike got on the end of Keene's cross to slot home in off Silawuli.
Johnson introduced the experienced Mabhuti Khenyeza just before the hour mark, and the substitute almost made an immediate impact when he forced Ronwen Williams into a fine save just minutes after being brought on.
That was the closest the visitors came to an equaliser, though, as Matsatsantsa went close to doubling their lead through Modiba and Keene, who both missed the target by inches with their respective efforts.
There were no scares for the Nedbank Cup champions in the closing stages as they claimed their first Premiership points of the season.
