Rise and Shine edge 10-man Matsatsantsa

Cape Town - Rodney Ramagalela's 11th Absa Premiership goal of the season was enough to secure a narrow 1-0 win for Polokwane City against 10-man SuperSport United on Wednesday evening.

The visitors came into the clash just three points above the relegation zone and made a bright start, with Morgan Gould forcing George Chigova into a smart save with his header from an eighth-minute corner.

United threatened again on the 18th minute when Thuso Phala was given space to line up a shot from distance, but Chigova watched the ball sail over his crossbar.

Bernard Molekwa's side began to grow into the game and Jabu Maluleke lashed an effort narrowly over the target from the edge of the area on the half-hour mark, before they hit the front five minutes before half-time.

It was that man Ramagalela again as met a corner from the right and steered a downward header past a diving Williams into the left corner of the net.

The Tshwane outfit suffered another blow five minutes after the restart with the dismissal of Gould, who received a straight red card.

Maluleke was a fraction away from doubling the hosts' lead on the 60th minute with a strike that brushed the outside of the post, but they were almost pegged back at the death.

Jamie Webber managed to fashion space for himself inside the box and got off a shot from close range, although Chigova came to the rescue with another fine save in the 88th minute.

The victory has given Rise and Shine breathing space as they boast a six point gap from the relegation zone.
