Cape Town - Amakhosi
legend Doctor Khumalo says he plans to put emotions aside in order to
try and help Baroka FC beat Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.
Khumalo left Chiefs after three decades and nearly 400 games at the club to take up the role of technical director at Baroka FC ahead of the new season.
He will now face his former team for the first time when they clash at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium this weekend.
Having changed allegiances, the former Bafana Bafana midfield maestro says he'll be focused on the job at hand and won't let sentiment cloud his vision.
"The truth is I realised I had to leave Chiefs to grow and learn. I knew I would have to be on the other side against them.
"But they understand I work elsewhere now, so sure, my aim is to help Baroka win," Khumalo told the Sowetan.
Baroka have been one of the surprise packages in the early stages of the season and are joint top of the table, behind Golden Arrows only on goal difference.
"We've worked well with the technical team so far," Khumalo said of his impact at the club.
"There's a fresh understanding and my role is to bring in new ideas and approach. Everyone now understands the modern way of doing things.
"There's nothing to celebrate yet. We are just showing that we have some potential. Lessons have been learnt from last season.
"This season has already produced many shocks, we saw Maritzburg beating Sundowns away, Arrows went to Wits and beat them, so we too can go to Chiefs and win," he added.
Kick off is at 18:00.
