Rama urges Chiefs not to have too big ambitions

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele says the club must stay grounded after winning their opening Absa Premiership game of 2019/20 against Highlands Park.

Chiefs picked up an opening day victory over the Lions of the North as Lebogang Manyama starred - hitting a brace for Highlands in the contest last weekend.

Nonetheless, ahead of Amakhosi's next league game against Black Leopards on Saturday - Mphahlele insists that the side focuses on one match at a time.

He said: "Look, as much as it was our first game, it felt good to start well. It gives you a sense of belief that you're capable of winning games.

"Because you know how the mind works, immediately if you don't do well in your first game then the ghosts from last season start haunting you.

"And then you're likely to fall into that pitfall of saying, 'Ah, here we go again!' But now we won the game and we can only build from there to say, 'Let's take it one game at a time.'

"So, we go forward and try to just minimise mistakes and build the confidence of the team.

"We need to just build on from it, let's not get carried away and start having too big ambitions.

"We won the game, we have another one on Saturday against Black Leopards, which is going to be very difficult because they lost their first game and will want to bounce back."
