Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs right-back Ramahlwe Mphahlele believes the club will remain alive in the Absa Premiership title race if they can beat Cape Town City at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Both sides trail league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by seven points with 10 matches left to play heading into this weekend's showdown.
Amakhosi could be without destroyer Willard Katsande due to a facial injury while forward Dumisani Zuma is ruled out with a groin problem. Meanwhile, midfielders George Maluleka and Gustavo Paez are also in doubt with minor ailments.
Nonetheless, Mphahlele takes the view that winning is vital to stay in the battle for the championship. He told the club's official website: "It will be tough, but we need the three points to stay in contention for the league title.
"We just need to play as a team. We are still very much contenders for the league title."
The player also expressed delight at returning to the first-team fold after injury in the 3-0 Nedbank Cup last-32 win over Golden Arrows last Sunday, saying: "I had to get used to the new formation in the first half.
"However, the coach spoke with me during the half-time break and he gave me the licence to join in attack if that was safe to do so."
