Rama, Billiat were 'surrounded by great players' at Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns legend Roger Feutmba believes there are two reasons Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Khama Billiat are not performing at Kaizer Chiefs.

Mphahlele arrived at Chloorkop in 2016 following a successful five-year stint with the Brazilians whereas Billiat joined two years later.

Amakhosi are currently at the top of the Absa Premiership standings and are in the driving seat to claim their first title in five years.

However, Mphahlele and Billiat have been struggling to break into the starting XI due to niggling injuries and fierce competition.

But Feutmba thinks that the current system being played under Ernst Middendorp at Amakhosi is further hindering Billiat and Mphahlele’s position in the team.

He also says that the duo does not have the calibre of players around them as they had at Sundowns.

"When you look at those two players, Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Khama Billiat, they've done much more at Sundowns," Feutmba said as quoted by KickOff.

"I strongly believe they did well because they were surrounded by great players. They were playing under the philosophy which suited their qualities.

"But you can't just say they are not doing well for Kaizer Chiefs. I think they are doing well even though it's not the same as they were at Sundowns."

He added: "Also, you can't compare because it's two different styles and philosophies. Chiefs rely on going forward and look for their top strikers while at Sundowns they play patiently, building up their attack, and don't play long-balls," he explains.

"If you want to get the best out of them, you must play positive football (laughs)."
