Cape Town - Wits forward Gift Motupa believes he is a strong contender to claim the Absa Premiership's Player of the Season crown due to his prolific form.
Motupa joined the Students ahead of the 2018/19 campaign and continues to display genuine quality when it comes to his exploits in front of goal.
Last season the 24-year-old scored nine league goals while on loan from Orlando Pirates in the colours of Baroka.
Nonetheless, after signing a permanent four-year contract with Wits ahead of this season, the attack-minded star continues to impress.
He has managed nine league goals in 18 appearances and has played a major part in Wits' title challenge.
Other contenders for the Player of the Season include Thembinkosi Lorch (Pirates), Lebohang Maboe, Gaston Sirino (both Mamelodi Sundowns) as well as Black Leopards' Mwape Musonda.
Speaking to KickOff website, he said: "Yes, so far I would say I agree [that he'd be a contender for the award] because I am doing well for my club.
"I believe if I can offer more than what I have offered, then I still have an opportunity to win Player of the Season."
In December and January Motupa was left out for three consecutive matches and he explained it was because coach Gavin Hunt felt he had areas of his game to improve.
The Bafana Bafana international concluded: "At that time the coach told me that there are a few things I still need to work on and we did work on them.
"That's why I came back, and I was scoring goals. There was some preparation we were doing, me and the coach, and other players helped me to understand things because I was new to the team."
