Polokwane - Polokwane City ensured they will stay in the Premiership for another season when they drew 1-1 with Chippa United in Saturday's clash at the Pietersburg Stadium.
It was a tight opening from both sides though Chippa did take the lead in the 38th minute through Linda Mntambo.
Bongile Booi leveled four minutes later although Abel Mabaso's sending off in the second half saw the game become tight and it ended 1-1.
Polokwane looked nervous in the opening 20 minutes with their Premiership status potentially being on the line, however, they began to settle down thereafter and show decent enterprise going forward.
Chippa were sharper in the opening exchanges though once the home team found their rhythm, it appeared Bernard Molekwa's men started to take control of matters in Polokwane.
However, after re-gaining the ascendancy from the Chilli Boys, the hosts found themselves 1-0 down after a fine strike from the impressive Mntambo. The midfielder broke though on goal and showed fine composure to rifle past Harold Ndlovu in the 38th minute.
Yet, City were level just four minutes later much to the relief of the home supporters. Wiseman Maluleke sent a long throw into the box and it dropped at the feet of Bongile Booi, who turned sharply to fire past Daniel Akpeyi from close range.
In the second stanza, Polokwane appeared reluctant to come out and attack as a point seemed more than likely to be enough to secure their status in South Africa's top flight.
As such, Chippa looked the more threatening without really opening up their opponents with regularity. With that said, the ever lively and dangerous Mntambo always looked capable of snatching all three points on the day.
Nonetheless, when Abel Mabaso was sent off for a second bookable offence just after the hour mark, goal-mouth action almost completely petered out and it ended 1-1 in Pietersburg.
