Players ratings: SuperSport 6-1 Pirates

Cape Town - SuperSport United thrashed Orlando Pirates 6-1 in their Absa Premiership clash at the Mbombela Stadium.

The defeat matched Pirates' worst-ever defeat - 27-years ago to Mamelodi Sundowns in a BP Top 8 encounter.

Sport24's Tashreeq Vardien rates each player according to their performance in Tuesday's match.

SuperSport United player ratings:

Ronwen Williams - 7/10

The 'keeper has matured under the guidance of Stuart Baxter and a late great penalty save from Tendai Ndoro will only boost his confidence.

Michael Boxall - 8/10

He is a right-back and seems comfortable in that position after spending time in a centre-back role. The New Zealander scored two goals after finding himself in the right position.

Clayton Daniels - 8/10

The heart of United's midfield. His demanding organisation skills are pivotal for Matsatsantsa.

Morgan Gould - 7/10

A walloping victory over old foes must be a great feeling. The former Kaizer Chiefs defender did enough to keep the Buccaneers in check.

Onismor Bhasera - 7/10

At the age of 30 the left-back did his job well especially linking up with SuperSport's midfield.

Dean Furman - 8/10

His work ethic goes unnoticed, but the former Doncaster midfielder put in a great shift which allowed Reneilwe Letsholonyane to push forward.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane - 8/10

'Yeye' proved once again how important he can be for a team. The midfielder found himself on the scoresheet while also assisting with one of Boxall's goals.

Cole Alexander - 3/10

Came off with what seemed like an injury, but was not doing his job in the 17 minutes he was on.

Thuso Phala - 7/10

Got a goal to show for all his hard running down the right flank.

Bradley Grobler - 8/10

An assist and a goal for his efforts and his link-up play was superb for Letsholonyane's goal.

Jeremy Brockie - 7/10

The New Zealander continues where he left off last season, once again on the scoresheet for United. His partnership with Grobler looks promising.

Key substitute:

Thebo Mnyamane - 6/10

Replaced Alexander in the early stages of the first half and Matsatsantsa immediately looked in better shape.

Orlando Pirates player ratings:

Brighton Mhlongo - 4/10

Too many mistakes and seems to be punching the ball too often when he could have caught it.

Happy Jele - 5/10

The Pirates captain won't be happy with his performance especially his leadership frailties in the second half.

Edwin Gyimah - 4/10

Kept his place following a man-of-the-match performance against Kaizer Chiefs last weekend, but struggled with the conditions and the pressure United put on the Buccaneers.

Ntsikelelo Nyauza - 4/10

The defender was beaten several times in the danger zone which resulted in his team conceding.

Thabo Matlaba - 5/10

The left-back's defending was below par on the night and could not contain the pressure from Thuso Phala.

Issa Sarr - 5/10

After failing to make the Senegal SWC 2018 squad to face Bafana Bafana, Sarr had an off evening in Pirates colours.

Mpho Makola - 5/10

A decent first half, but failed to improve after the break. Could not compete with SuperSport's dominant midfield.

Gift Motupa - 5/10

The former Baroka FC attacking midfielder should have been taken off instead of Riyaad Norodien. Motupa struggled to keep up with the pace of the game.

Thabo Rakhale - 6/10

Along with Norodien, Rakhale was a standout performer, but faded in the second half due to SuperSport's attacking dominance.

Riyaad Norodien - 6/10

The former Ajax Cape Town attacking midfielder looks like a great addition to the Buccaneers squad.

Tendai Ndoro - 6/10

The Zimbabwean is struggling to stay centrally as he often wanders wide, but proved that he is deadly in front of goal following his first half goal.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
