Cape Town - It is not often you see Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates fans united in a common cause but that was exactly the case at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Amakhosi fans were hoping that their Sowetan neighbours would do them a favour by gaining a positive result against their nearest title rivals Sundowns.
And the Buccaneers did just that, leaving the Brazilians nine points adrift of the Glamour Boys.
The Amakhosi fans in attendance held up placards in attendance thanking their arch-rivals.
And Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane, said it was an unusual sight to see black and gold united at Orlando Stadium
"It's never easy to find a coalition. I saw the whole Soweto, black and white, gold and black, together," the Masandawana mentor told KickOff.
"Then I knew Mamelodi Sundowns has become a problem in the country. We played against the whole country.
"It's okay. It sends a statement. You can go look at the world club rankings and you can go look at the coach’s world rankings, I am at peace."
Sundowns take on their neighbours SuperSport United on Saturday at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Kick-off is at 15:30.
