Pitso: We need somebody who can finish the attack

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane believes his side need to sign another finisher if they are to solve their goalscoring woes.

Emiliano Tade and Tokelo Rantie have been released in recent weeks, while Mauricio Affonso and Jose Ali Meza are sidelined with injuries.

And this has meant the Masandawana mentor has had to deploy the likes of Sibusiso Vilakazi in a false nine role with Gaston Sirino. Vilakazi has answered the call with three goals in his last three games.

But in the aftermath of the 2-1 victory over USM Alger in the CAF Champions League on Saturday, Mosimane believes while his side have enough playmakers with the likes of Gaston Sirino and Themba Zwane, he feels there aren't enough finishers in the squad.

“We always want an extra finisher because the games tell you, even today. The game of Wits told you – you need a finisher," Mosimane told the media as quoted by FarPost.

“We don’t need a playmaker, I mean we make the play. I don’t think our defence is such a problem and Ricardo [Nascimento] has come back to strengthen us.

“We are okay. We are okay at the back, we are okay with midfielders, and we are okay with playmakers.

“We need finishers upfront. We are not looking for a player who is going to show us how to play. Gaston is there.

“Mshishi (Zwane) is there. We need somebody who can finish the attack. We are trying. We haven’t given up. We are still there.”

The Brazilians have been linked with a move for former Kaizer Chiefs striker Knowledge Musona in recent weeks, but their hopes could have been dashed as the Zimbabwe international has been spotted training with Belgian side KAS Eupen.

Musona has been playing in Belgium for the last four seasons, plying his trade with Oostende, Anderlecht and Lokeren over that period.
