Pitso wary of 'well-rested' Pirates

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has bemoaned the fact that Orlando Pirates will be the more well-rested of the two sides when they meet at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

Whereas Pirates played last Tuesday, Sundowns played on Saturday past, claiming a 2-1 victory over Algerian side USM Alger at Loftus Versfeld to qualify for the quarter-final stage of the CAF Champions League.

And now the Brazilians will have to turn their focus to an in-form Buccaneers side, who are coming off the back of a 4-1 drubbing of Polokwane City.

"It's always difficult when you are racing against well-rested teams. We can't complain about other teams waiting for us and not playing after seven days.

"We are an ambitious club. If we want to be up in the world rankings, then we can't be well rested."

The Buccaneers are unbeaten since German coach Josef Zinnbauer took the reins, winning two of those three encounters, while drawing one. Pirates have scored more goals in the Absa Premiership and are only second to Kaizer Chiefs in terms of goals scored.

"They are doing well. They have a new coach. The team is scoring goals, which is very good but it's the same players we know," said the Masandawana mentor.

"I only hope we don't miss a lot because we create the chances to score."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
