Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane is eager to turn the Brazilians into a dominant side in Africa.
The former Bafana Bafana mentor guided the Chloorkop club to an emphatic CAF Champions League triumph last year after securing league credentials in May.
Mosimane was crowned CAF Coach of the Year last week in Nigeria for his efforts with the club and ‘keeper Denis Onyango nabbing awards at the CAF awards evening.
“I’m not done yet. I’m going to turn Sundowns into a formidable force in Africa,” said Mosimane as quoted by the SowetanLIVE.
“They are not at the level where I would like them to be.
“I have awakened the sleeping giants and now I want to turn them into a team that will rewrite the history books. Sundowns are meant for more.”
Following their exhausting schedule in 2016, the club is only set to return to training for the second-half of the season January 18.
"We have not had off-season," he said.
"We played in June and July while other teams were on break. But when we come back on January 18, I'm confident that we'll be at the required level to compete for the league title.
"If we can't win it, then we have to be runners-up because I want us to be in the Champions League.
"We have to go back to the Club World Cup and do better than we did in December. We need to improve and show that the standard of SA football can match global trends."
