Pitso wants SA players at Juve, Liverpool and Ajax

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says he wants to develop local players in order that they are one day capable of representing some of the biggest clubs in world football.

Mosimane takes the view that for Bafana Bafana to succeed on the international stage, players are needed who have the ability and mental strength to play for the likes of Liverpool, Ajax Amsterdam and Juventus.

Benni McCarthy remains the only South African to win the UEFA Champions League under Jose Mourinho at Porto and 'Jingles' says he hopes to remedy that situation in future.

The 2016 CAF Champions League winner told reporters: "I need a player in that space. Look at the Moroccans at Ajax all the time.

"Look at the Senegalese [players] all the time. I think I need to go build a player for the World Cup. I want Bafana to go to the World Cup, not go to the World Cup and come out of the group stages.

"I need a player at Ajax, I need a player to play for Liverpool, I need a player to play for Juve. Why not for South Africans? It's possible, so that's my next chapter.

"I played football in Europe and I know how I survived and I know where I lacked. I've seen Steven Pienaar at the highest level, in the Champions League and I know how he survived, and I know what he lacked. I've seen Benni, he won the Champions League and I've seen him in Bafana, where we relied only on him."
