Pitso teases Mahlambi signing ahead of transfer window closure

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane has opened up to the media about the possibility of signing Al Ahly midfielder Phakamani Mahlambi.

The former Wits playmaker finds himself warming the bench in Egypt and has struggled to break into the African giants' first team.

Mosimane is eager to lure the South African back to the Absa Premiership and teased the 20-year-old with what could happen if he were to join the Tshwane outfit.

“Am I interested in signing a 20-year-old, who is quick, a Bafana player, big room for improvement?” Mosimane questions as quoted by KickOff website.

“I see him following the route of 20-year-old Bongani Zungu who we signed and went to Europe.

“We signed a 20-year-old Keagan Dolly and he went to Europe. We had Percy Tau from 16 or 17 and he went to Europe.

“Does it make sense to sign Phakamani? If I look at the reference of what I have said, I think it makes sense. We like him, but we probably can’t afford him.”

Mosimane has made several big player signings during the off-season with Andile Jali, Mosa Lebusa, Reyaad Pieterse, Lebohang Maboe and Lyle Lakay all joining the Brazilians.

The transfer window closes at the end of August and despite the former Bafana Bafana coach admitting that Mahlambi might be out of their price range, anything can still happen.

Meanwhile, Sundowns travel to the Mother City for their much anticipated MTN8 semi-final first leg clash against Benni McCarthy's Cape Town City.

The match is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 25 at Cape Town Stadium.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
