Pitso seeks Tshwane Derby win as title chase intensifies

Cape Town - The Tshwane Derby carries extra significance for Mamelodi Sundowns as they chase a second consecutive Absa Premiership crown.

The city rivals clash in a league encounter on Wednesday night and their situations within the league at this stage could not be more different.

Sundowns head in to the clash six points behind pacesetters Orlando Pirates but boast three games in hand, so effectively still hold their destiny in their own hands.

Quite simply, they will win the league if they win every remaining game.

SuperSport United, on the other hand, are in a very comfortable - if not particularly impressive, position.

Ahead of the match they are sixth in the standings, eight points ahead of Golden Arrows in ninth, so there are no real concerns about losing their place in the top eight.

This has led to an interesting back and forth with claims that all the pressure is on Sundowns, while some believe SuperSport are at a disadvantage because they have nothing to play for.

However, if there is one consistent fact in football it's that rivalry fixtures throw everything out the window. Form, status, whatever, it doesn't matter. Both of these teams will want to beat each other just to secure bragging rights for their fans.

The Brazilians will have to make do without the injured trio of Jeremy Brockie (groin) and Anthony Laffor (knee), while SuperSport have no injury concerns ahead of the match.
