Pitso praises Sundowns duo

Cape Town - Pitso Mosimane singled out goalscorers Sibusiso Vilakazi and Themba Zwane for special praise after Mamelodi Sundowns' 2-0 victory over Supersport United.

Vilakazi scored a thunderous left-footed long range strike in the first half before Zwane killed off the contest in the last minute of second-half regular time with a composed side-footed finish after brilliant work by Thapelo Morena in the build-up.

And Mosimane has revealed that both players need to chip in with more goals this season if they are to become complete players.

"It's a good start. First congratulations to Themba Zwane." Mosimane told Supersport TV.

"He says he wants to be top goalscorer and player of the season. But I'm happy that Vila scored. He came to me and said, 'What is this that he needs to correct'. I said it always looks nice and pretty but you don't finish, you don't score the goal. You need to finish. But I'm happy he scored with the left foot from outside the box."

The Downs mentor believes his players sometimes overdo it, but he is reluctant to curb their creative expression.

"Sometimes my players are naughty when they are trying to play their way out. Too many small passes. But you know, I don't want to stop because I've got to let them to play to their potential," said Mosimane.

"Because if you don't let Vila and Themba Zwane to play those passes, then you are taking them out of the game. I wish they could shoot more, but they like to enjoy the game. It's also good for football and for people to see. But next time they must take their opportunities and kill the game sooner. They killed it late."

Finally, the former Bafana Bafana tactician praised his side's defensive display and said it was a definite ploy to nullify aerial balls directed to Supersport striking duo Bradley Grobler and Thamsanqa Gabuza.

"Our defence was super. I thought I would play Riva as a right-back today but when I saw they are playing Gabuza, I knew that ball was coming from over the top all the time. And if you put Gabuza and Grobler, obviously you're going to take it up. So we had to choose personnel according to expectations. Because when they played Stellenbosch in a friendly game, we scouted them and Gabuza scored with a header," added Mosimane.
