Pitso: 'Nine trophies is bad in seven years'

Pitso Mosimane has praised the coaches that came before him at Mamelodi Sundowns while underplaying his own impact in the club's recent successes.

The former Bafana boss has claimed four Premier Soccer League titles, a Nedbank Cup, two Telkom Cups, the CAF Champions League as well as the CAF Super Cup, since joining Downs in 2012.

He took over from Johan Neeskens and said the team only needed a few tweaks in defence to create a better balance.

Mosimane told Far Post: "I found Sundowns playing well but I found Sundowns not being able to defend because they were good going forward and they outplayed teams but lose matches so they lack a little bit of balance and I put the balance by changing the shape.

"I didn’t bring the culture of playing a passing game at Mamelodi Sundowns, it has been there when (Stanley) 'Screamer' Tshabalala was there (as coach in the 1980s), let's be honest, let's give praise to the coaches who were there before me, they played that way."

And despite his trophy haul, Mosimane revealed he is not satisfied, saying, "When you master the way you play, you are able to bring results, so I think nine trophies is bad in seven years."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
