Pitso expecting Mahlambi to fill Tau void at Downs

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says recent signing Phakamani Mahlambi will be expected to perform and score goals like Percy Tau and Khama Billiat.

Both Tau and Billiat were the main source of goals during their time at Sundowns, before the former departed for Europe to sign for Brighton and the latter moved to Kaizer Chiefs.

Meanwhile, Mahlambi penned a five-year deal with the 2016 African champions on 31 August after failing to establish himself with Egypt's Al Ahly.

Speaking to reporters, Mosimane said: "What Phaka has to do...he's got speed...he has to get fit so as to give us that outlet.

"Here he will be expected to score more. Remember Percy (Tau) was a winger (but he was expected) to score goals. He would come as a (number) nine or a 10.

"Khama (Billiat) was a winger at Ajax (Cape Town), (he was) converted as a 10."

The 20-year-old could be available for selection for Downs when they return to action in the Premiership on 19 September against Golden Arrows, following the completion of the international break.
