Pitso: CCL qualification is carrot we dangle

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says qualifying for the CAF Champions League is a must in order to keep attracting quality players to the Chloorkop-based outfit.

The Brazilians face relegation-threatened Highlands Park on Saturday and need to win in order to secure second place in the Premiership and Champions League football in 2017/18.

If 'Downs slip up against the Lions of the North while third-placed Cape Town City win, it would mean the defending African champions would miss out on the tournament.

Mosimane stressed to reporters that securing second place was vital, "The game on Saturday is very important and we have to play in the Champions League for the fourth year in a row.

"That's why we want to win on Saturday. It's important for the team to play in the Champions League because you get wiser and get recognition on the continent.

"These are players who will see the opportunity to play in the Champions League, Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup. That's the carrot we dangle to recruit players."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
