Pitso backs his assistant Mokoena

Cape Town - Pitso Mosimane has lashed out against referee Victor Gomes, claiming the man in the middle got it wrong when he sent off his assistant, Rhulani Mokoena, during their 1-0 win over Highlands Park.

The Brazilians beat the National First Division outfit in the Last 32 of the Nedbank Cup this weekend, although prior to Keagan Dolly's winner, frustrations from the Sundowns bench were boiling over and Gomes took action by sending off the 30-year old coach.

Mosimane admits he's happy with the stance of the South African football association for investigating and suspending match officials who perform poorly and backed his assistant, claiming he did not deserve to be sent off.

"Let me tell you something. I do not have time to lie. Rhulani did not swear," the former Bafana Bafana coach told The Sowetan.

"We all like what Safa is doing. We coaches are accountable. If we do not win we know what supporters say. Everybody must be accountable for their actions. Well done to SAFA."
