Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says their strong showing in April was crucial in clinching the Absa Premiership title.
The Brazilians went unbeaten in all five of their league games last month.
It started with a 2-0 win over Chippa United on April 4, which came two days after a quarter-final victory over Cape Town City in the Nedbank Cup.
Sundowns went on to register four more victories and a draw to clinch their third Absa Premiership title under the mentorship of Mosimane.
“The month of April was important for us,” Mosimane told the SABC.
“Eight games in 28 games and everybody thought we will not comeback, but we won them all and the only game we lost is in the Nedbank Cup semi-final, there was also one draw.
“We played every three days against well rested teams, but our experienced helped us. Sibusiso Vilakazi, Hlompho Kekana, Percy Tau, Themba Zwane and Tiyani Mabunda. These are Bafana Bafana players, and others... Khama Billiat is an international and Dennis Onyango is also an international.
“So we have that experience and if you can check, a big percentage of the team won the CAF Champions League. The current players know the route and we cannot change the formation because there is chemistry on how we play.”
