Pirates young guns target second title

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates' Under-17 side are targeting a second title when they begin the Nike Future Champions tournament which begins in Soweto on Monday.

The young Sea Robbers recently clinched the Gauteng Future Champions competition after beating Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

Bucs' young guns claimed the title after coming back from 1-0 down to draw 1-1 before winning the competition on a penalty shootout.

"In football you will always want to pit yourself with the best and the Future Champs competition allows us to do so," former Pirates star and U17 coach Philani Kubheka said of his team's hopes in the tournament.

"This is important because it will help us to measure ourselves as to where we are as a team and also serve as motivation for the players because one day some of these boys will be representing their respective nations and they'll compete with one another," he was reported in Soccer Laduma as saying.

Notable outfits in the competition include Italy's Torino, Russia's Spartak Moscow, Belgium's Club Brugge as well as Spain's Atletico Madrid.
