Pirates terminate Mbekile's contract

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates have confirmed that they have terminated the contract of defender Asavela Mbekile by mutual consent.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns man had found game time difficult to come by since arriving at the Buccaneers in 2018.

The 33-year-old had asked the Sea Robbers to leave in search of regular first-team football and the two parties agree on a mutual parting of ways.

"The club would like to thank Asavela for his contribution and particularly the professionalism he displayed during his time with us and we wish him all of the best in his future endeavours," read a Pirates statement.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are back in action this weekend against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 18:00.
