Pirates skipper calls for focus with title in sight

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele has urged his team-mates to remain calm and focused as they close in on potentially securing the Absa Premiership title.

Pirates enjoy a three-point advantage over Mamelodi Sundowns (Brazilians have a game in hand) at the top of the Premiership standings following a 1-0 victory over Maritzburg United on Wednesday night.

The hero on the night against the Team of Choice was Vincent Pule who grabbed the winner in the second half of the contest.

Speaking to his side's official website, Pule said: "For me, it was important to work hard for the team and score the goal so that we can continue the run that we're on.

"It wasn't pretty, but we fought hard and we were able to get the points that we need."

Meanwhile, Jele expressed his view that Bucs stay calm and composed in their two remaining league games against Cape Town City and Polokwane City.

"It's very important to get results in the last two games, you know we're challenging for the championship, so we just need to be calm, stay focused and go back to the drawing board and work harder so that we get the results that we need," the skipper added.

The Sea Robbers are next in action on 4 May when they face the Citizens at Athlone Stadium in the Mother City.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
