Pirates ready to hand Cosmos a fourth straight defeat

Cape Town - Jomo Cosmos will look to break their losing streak in the Absa Premiership when they host Orlando Pirates at Olen Park.

Cosmos suffered a third successive defeat when they were beaten 2-1 at home by Ajax Cape Town on January 17.

The Potchefstroom side has claimed eight points from seven home matches this season.

Ezenkosi are placed 14th on the Absa Premiership log with 10 points from 14 matches.

Pirates extended their unbeaten run in the league to three matches with a 3-3 draw away to Maritzburg United on January 16.

The Soweto giants have claimed eight points from seven away matches this season.

The Buccaneers are placed 11th on the Absa Premiership log with 16 points from 13 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Cosmos and Pirates have met in 48 league matches since 1985.

The Buccaneers have 18 wins compared to 15 for Ezenkosi, while 15 matches have been drawn.

Cosmos have won eight of their 25 home matches against Pirates, suffering nine defeats in the process.

The teams last met in the 2011/12 season, with Bucs claiming a league ‘double’ thanks to 2-1 wins both away and home.

Cosmos have won just one of their last 13 league matches against Pirates.

Kick-off is at 18:00 on Saturday, January 23.
