Cape Town - The South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (SAIDS) has confirmed that a player from Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates tested positive for cocaine in a recent routine drug test.
The test was carried out after an ABSA Premiership game towards the end of last season.
According to Soccer Laduma, SAIDS CEO, Khalid Galant confirmed the news.
“I can confirm that a football player from Orlando Pirates at an Absa Premiership game failed a doping test. The B-Sample test confirmed usage of cocaine. The player has contested the charge and it will be heard on August 31,” said Galant.
The player has not been named at this point.
