Pirates keeper sees Khuzwayo as 'partner'

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane believes the presence of Brilliant Khuzwayo in the goalkeeping department provides a healthy rivalry at the club.

Khuzwayo arrived from Kaizer Chiefs prior to the 2018/19 campaign and reports suggested he was earmarked to be first choice shot-stopper at Mayfair under coach Milutin Sredojevic.

However, the ex-Amakhosi number two has been ruled out for up to a month with injury and it appears either Mabokgwane, Siyabonga Mpontshane or Wayne Sandilands could start against Highlands Park on the weekend in the Premiership.

Speaking to Kickoff, the 30-year-old said: "The season is starting and we're looking forward to it. Like I've always said before on the competition, for me, I don't view other goalkeepers as competition, we are partners.

"Of course, I am at a club where I'm employed to do a job and to help the team. I look into my own games and I try to improve from my previous game or the previous season.

"That's definitely how I look at it. It's not so much about who else played and (how they performed), I just always analyse my own games and performances and try and do better."
