Soweto - Orlando Pirates finished strongly at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night to secure a 3-1 Absa Premiership win over SuperSport United.
The Sea Robbers took the lead after 14 minutes when Augustine Mulenga sprinted down the left flank before picking out Vincent Pule with a perfect cross, the latter scoring with a well taken header past Ronwen Williams.
The goal brought about a response from Matsatsantsa, but apart from a Bradley Grobler header in the 28th minute, well saved by Siyabonga Mpontshane, the visitors could not create clear-cut openings.
At the other end, a swift counter from Bucs in the 38th minute resulted in Mulenga inviting Linda Mntambo to shoot, but he dragged his effort wide of goal.
Grobler was to have another couple of chances to level matters before the break, but his first effort, a chip from 25-yards out, went over goal, before he slotted a shot from inside the box just over the bar.
Following the restart, Teboho Mokoena wasted a promising chance for SuperSport when he missed the ball completely, while at the other end, Pule was off target with a header.
The game remained tightly balanced until SuperSport restored parity in the 69th minute when some great work from Aubrey Modiba saw him locating Bongani Khumalo at the back post, who scored with a close-range volley.
The Buccaneers however refused to let the setback get them down and they showed character to come back and reclaim the lead in the 82nd minute when a backheel from Xola Mlambo allowed Thembinkosi Lorch to stroke a sublime low finish into the bottom corner.
Four minutes later the victory was made certain of when Mulenga crossed for Ben Motshwari, whose shot hit Williams before bouncing against the Pirates man and into the net.
