Cape Town - Orlando Pirates were in imperious form as they destroyed Wits 4-0 in Wednesday's Absa Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.
Pirates were in full control at an empty Orlando Stadium and would soon take control of proceedings inside the first 15 minutes. Sifiso Hlanti was unfortunate as he deflected Luvuyo Memela's strike into his own net beyond Kyle Peters.
The Clever Boys were sluggish and Bucs nearly doubled their advantage after the 20 minute-mark though Peters was sharp to deny striker Justin Shonga.
Nonetheless, Gavin Hunt's men were lacking any fight and in the 36th minute a mistake from a Wits defender presented a gift to Augustine Mulenga, who showed composure to slot beyond Peters.
The Sea Robbers were by far the superior side and soon made their advantage count after Mulenga was brought down in the box. Shonga was confident as he converted the penalty with ease.
After the break, the momentum continued as the Sea Robbers put Wits to the sword. From a superb assist by Memela, the impressive Mulenga completed his brace in the 58th minute.
The onslaught was nearly complete in the last 10 minutes as Memela went through on goal, but chipped over the goal with just the keeper to beat. At the death, Lehlohonolo Majoro was denied a consolation strike when he intercepted a pass from Siyabonga Mpontshane, though his finish was cleared off the line.
The striker then missed a penalty in the closing stages after he was brought down by Diamond Thopola, but Mpontshane produced a fine save.
