Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbauer has insisted Bongani Sam has a future at the Houghton club, despite media recent media reports that he was on his way out of the club.

The ex-Bloemfontein Celtic ace made his debut for Pirates in last week's win over Highlands Park and was one of the club's best players in the match.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Zinnbauer admitted the 22-year-old only found out that he would be starting after they had arrived at the venue.

"We did not say anything to him until we got to the stadium, he did not know that he would be playing," Zinnbauer told the media.

"Sam is a young player and you need to be careful with him. We have been working with everyone, and him in individual sessions – we show him clips from these sessions and friendly games. I thought he had a good performance and we are happy about this.

"The same goes for Mako too, and that is the thing that is good at the moment.

"We have players wanting to break into the team and those that are in the team don’t want to be taken out. So, this is what is working now, and we have fun in training."

Pirates have turned around their form since the German's appointment, and have won four of their last five matches under his tutelage.

They face AmaZulu at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night eager to improve on their 30 points and fifth-place on the Absa Premiership log, with fourth-placed Bidvest Wits not in action in the league this weekend.
