Phungwayo's Bucs future in limbo

Cape Town - After his jersey number (21) was given to Thamsanqa Sangweni, Orlando Pirates left-back Patrick Phungwayo will find out his fate by the end of the week.

"The numbers are given preference to people who start, so it does not mean anything. You’ll see that (Thembinkosi) Lorch has taken the jersey number three," Pirates administrator Floyd Mbele said as quoted by KickOff website.

"Patrick is still with the club. The technical (team) must decide, with the numbers of left-backs we have in the team, what’s the way forward. We’ve got left-backs at the moment, so it’s a conversation a technical team must deal with. But he is still with the club."

Phungwayo's chances of getting regular game time will be an obstacle as the Buccaneers have Innocent Maela, Marc van Heerden and Thabo Matlaba who can play left-back.

The 29-year-olds agent, Mike Makaab revealed that his client will know in the "next few days" if he still has a future at the club.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are set to face Baroka FC on Tuesday evening at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Kick off is at 19:30.
