Papi: Pitso knows what he is doing

Cape Town - Papi Zothwane has compared the current Sundowns squad to a previously star-studded Brazilians outfit, in addition to singing coach Pitso Mosimane's praises.

Zothwane formed part of the Sundowns squad that was coached by Hristo Stoichkov and Antonio Lopez Habas in the 2009/10 and 2010/11 campaigns respectively.

In comparing the two sides, the former Golden Arrows concluded that the biggest difference between the two teams would be the impact of current coach Pitso Mosimane.

"I can’t say there is huge gap between us and this Sundowns side," he told KickOff website.

"I think it was matter of luck on our side because we came second in 2009/10 and the following season and we were competing for the league title.

"We stood at the top in the last four games as the number one and we lost it (in 2009/10). The other season in 2010/11 we came number two again so it was matter of luck but I’m happy to see Sundowns now doing well. I can see their structure and it is the structure that the club has been craving for many years now."

Zothwane also highlighted why he believes the current Masandawana outfit are doing well, in addition to suggesting that the team's upcoming hectic schedule is part and parcel of the game.

Sundowns are scheduled to compete in eight matches in the space of 17 days in the Premiership, MTN 8 tournament and CAF Champions League respectively.

"I think the club needed to have a coach like Pitso Mosimane who knows what Sundowns wanted. Pitso knows what he is doing - you can see by the results - and the technical team they have is very strong," he added.

"A job is a job and yes, you will feel that fatigue when you're playing so many matches on the trot.

"But as a player for you it is a passion.

"From my side, I would be delighted because I will have a lot of matches to play."
