Palacios rues Pirates' erratic defence

Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates interim coach Augusto Palacios believes the Buccaneers did not deserve to lose to SuperSport United over the weekend.

Matsatsantsa eliminated the Soweto giants 1-0 in the Telkom Knockout semi-final courtesy of a strike by Thabo Mnyamane at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday.

But Palacios insisted that it was only one defensive blunder which cost the Buccaneers their place in the lucrative Ziwa Mo final.

"We controlled the match well and we knew what SuperSport wanted to do," said Palacios.

"They used the same line-up as the Kaizer Chiefs game. We had one defensive lapse and paid for it.

"We also created a lot of chances but we were unable to score. We didn't lose because they were better than us.

"They just happened to score that goal and we only had Issa (Sarr), (Edwin) Gyimah and (Justice) Chabalala at the back while everyone was attacking."

SuperSport will battle against Cape Town City for the R4million grand prize, with a date and kick-off times still to be announced.
