Palacios: It would've killed Brighton

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates interim coach Augusto Palacios has revealed dropping goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo after the club's recent 6-1 defeat to SuperSport United would have destroyed his confidence.

Palacios recently took over from Muhsin Ertugral on a caretaker basis after the Turk handed in his resignation following the heavy defeat.

The 64-year-old played Mhlongo in his first match back in charge against Highlands Park in a 2-1 Telkom Knockout quarter-final victory.

After the win, the Peruvian explained he never considered dropping the 25-year-old 'keeper as he believed in his abilities despite his horror showing against Matsatsantsa.

"Brighton just needs to correct a few things in his game but otherwise he is a very good keeper,"

"I reminded him that there are many times where he was the difference in the team and again he showed his quality.

"I've known Brighton for over 11 years. It was important that he played against Highlands Park. To drop him would have killed him."
