Onyango praises Sundowns after tough season

Cape Town - Goalkeeper Denis Onyango praised his Mamelodi Sundowns team after they wrapped up the Absa Premiership title on the final day of the season.

Onyango played a pivotal role as Masandawana beat Free State Stars 1-0 on Saturday to make sure the PSL trophy will stay at the Tshwane club for another season.

Sundowns' triumph is even more sweet if you consider the sheer amount of games the players have to play as they traveled through the continent and made the semi-finals of the Caf Champions League.

The team put all the fatigue and a PSL case to have them docked three points to one side though as they eventually ended two points clear of Orlando Pirates.

Onyango told SuperSport TV: "Well done to the guys. It's been a very tough season for me and the team because we had so many games.

"But I had to bring my A-game because we knew we were playing a very strong team fighting for their lives.

"I knew we could score a goal and of course keeping a clean sheet would be much better for a team that has been fighting for me all season.

"We knew it was going to be very tough. Coming to Goble Park is never easy even though we've been winning here for the last few years.

"They were fighting relegation and we were fighting for the league. All we had to do was win our game and leave the rest to the PSL"
