Onyango: Khune deserves goalkeeper award

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has backed rival Itumeleng Khune of Kaizer Chiefs to walk away with the Absa Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season Award.

The two shot-stoppers are expected to go head-to-head for the accolade in the Premiership end of the season awards.

Onyango played a pivotal role as Sundowns went all the way to clinch the Premiership title while Khune has the most clean sheets so far into the 2017/18 season.

Onyango said as much as he has won the Premiership title with Sundowns, and believes the Amakhosi captain has been the best goalkeeper through-out the season, keeping 16 clean sheets.

Onyango told SuperSport on Thursday night: "I think Itu has done well. I think Itu, I mean sixteen clean sheets.

"He has been fantastic, he has done it all. I don’t know who will win it; I’m not part of the panel, but I think he deserves it.

"I will be the runner-up. I would love to win it, but he has done well.

"If someone has done well you must respect it."
