Onyango: 'Downs ready to pounce

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has warned Bidvest Wits that if they slip up, the Brazilians will take full advantage.

With three matches to play this season, Wits have a three-point advantage over second-placed Sundowns.

The Clever Boys play Free State Stars at Goble Park while the Brazilians host Baroka FC, both matches on Wednesday night.

Speaking at the PSL offices after he was announced as the Player of the month for April, Onyango was optimistic that the defending league champions can retain their crown, which would mean the Students have to slip up.

"You never know where you are going to drop points in any of your remaining matches," he said.

"Anything is possible in (Wits') case. We know that they struggle each time they travel (to Bethlehem) for their matches against Free State Stars."

The Ugandan concedes though that the Johannesburg club have the experience in their ranks needed to win titles.

"Coach Gavin Hunt is a very experienced person when it comes to winning the league title. I've worked with him for three years before (at SuperSport United) and he's the type of person who knows how keep the lead, once he's on top.

"They've (Wits) got experienced players like Daine Klate and (Cuthbert) Malajila, to mention a few, who can help them to challenge for the league title.

"It's all in their hands now. But if we get a half a chance, then we are the ones who’ll end up winning it," the goalkeeper added.
