Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Cyril Nzama sees rapid maturity in ever improving centre-back Lorenzo Gordinho, who is gradually becoming a pillar of strength in Amakhosi's defence.
The 22-year-old, who made his Premiership debut in 2013, made an impact in last season's campaign alongside the experienced Erick Mathoho, which saw him being rewarded with a Most Improved Player and two player of the month awards.
In the current season the national Under-20 defender has continued where he left off as a rock in the heart of Chiefs' backline, while also bagging three goals.
"There is no doubt that Gordinho will soon become Chiefs' pillar of strength in central defender," Nzama told Vodacom Soccer.
"Having initially struggled to make a breakthrough in the team's starting XI in his first two seasons, the boy grabbed the opportunity with both hands last season and really made an impact.
"It's evident that playing alongside seasoned centre-back like Mathoho has made him improve in his position.
"I've seen maturity in his game, and there is no doubt that in the near future he will be amongst the best centre-backs in the PSL, only if he can remain focused and consistent.
"What I also like about him is that he can also score like his centre-back partner, Mathoho. He scored three goals while Mathoho scored five last season. And he (Gordinho) has already scored three to date."
With Mathoho on compassionate leave following the passing of his brother, Gordinho and Daniel Cardoso paired up well in Amakhosi's 2-0 win over Ajax Cape Town on Saturday.
Gordinho is expected to make an impact in Amakhosi's Telkom Knockout clash against Maritzburg United this weekend.
